How to Avoid Bringing Home bedbugs From Spring Break

If you are like a lot of people, you are planning to take an exciting trip for spring break so that you can have a great time. No matter your destination, you will need to take steps to stay safe while you are away from home if you don’t want to face unneeded problems.

Not many things will ruin your trip as much as bedbugs, and most travelers won’t even know about the pests until they return home. You can keep bedbugs at bay when you follow the right tips, and you will be glad that you did.

Keep Your Bags and Clothes Safe

Since bedbugs won’t waste time when they have a chance to get into your bags or on your clothes, learning to keep your belongings out of harm’s way is a smart move. Bedbugs like to hide in mattresses, carpet and furniture, but you can place your bags on the bathroom sink as soon as you arrive.

Inspect Your Hotel Room

Now that your bags are out of the bedbugs’ reach, it’s time to inspect the rest of the room for bedbugs and the red flags that indicate their presence. You will need to use a flashlight to check on and under the bed before you go to sleep, but you should also remove the sheets and check the seams of the mattress. If your hotel room has furniture, remove the cushions to determine if bedbugs are nearby.

Decontaminate Your Luggage

Even if you did not spot any bedbugs during your trip, taking steps to decontaminate your luggage is an important piece of the puzzle that you won’t want to ignore. You will first put your clothes in a sealed garbage bag to prevent any bedbugs from escaping and infesting your home when you get back.

Also, wrap a plastic sheet around your suitcase to create an additional barrier that will keep the pests in place. You must then set the suitcase in the bathtub and put the clothes in the dryer on the hottest setting for one hour, and the heat will kill the parasites.
